La Miniserie che ripercorre i passi degli "alpini americani" sulle nostre montagne
La Seconda Guerra Mondiale nella miniserie televisiva che, vista attraverso gli occhi di un gruppo di “Alpini” della 10a Divisione da Montagna statunitense, si sviluppa dall’arrivo in Italia della Divisione, nel Gennaio del 1945, sino alla fine della guerra. La miniserie, in cui sono presenti contributi di filmati dell’epoca, è basata interamente su fatti realmente accaduti e documentati attraverso le memorie di veterani ancora in vita e racconta le esperienze personali dei soldati soffermandosi anche sui loro rapporti con la popolazione civile. Ambientata nei paesi e nei campi di battaglia dell’epoca, la miniserie ricostruisce anche alcuni dei sanguinosi combattimenti e atti di eroismo che portarono allo sfondamento del fronte tedesco nel settore centrale della Linea Gotica, sui monti dell’alto Appennino tra le provincie delle città di Bologna, Modena e Pistoia, prologo alla fine della Seconda Guerra Mondiale in Italia.
The Second World War in a television miniseries which, seen through the eyes of a group of mountaineers of the 10th Mountain Division, develops from the arrival of the Division in Italy in January 1945 until the end of the war. The miniseries is entirely based on true events documented through the memories of living veterans and tells the personal experiences of the soldiers and their relationships with the civilian population. Set and shoot in the hilltowns and in the battlefields of the time, reconstructs some of the bloody battles and acts of heroism that led to the breakthrough of the German front in the central sector of the Gothic Line, on the mountains of the high Apennines between the provinces of the city of Bologna, Modena and Pistoia, prologue to the end of the Second World War in Italy.
l progetto si basa interamente su fatti realmente accaduti e documentati grazie alle memorie di veterani ancora in vita, narra le importanti battaglie che portarono allo sfondamento del fronte tedesco nel settore centrale della Linea Gotica, nell’alto Appennino tra le provincie di Bologna, Modena e Pistoia, prologo alla fine della Seconda Guerra Mondiale in Italia, con uno sguardo ai rapporti tra i soldati e la popolazione.
La miniserie, doppiata in lingua italiana e inglese, è strutturata in 3 Episodi con una durata media di 40 minuti l’uno.
Ogni episodio segue uno specifico evento di quello che successe sull’Appenino Tosco-Emiliano tra gennaio e aprile del 1945.
Il progetto segue la Compagnia G dell’85° Reggimento Fanteria da Montagna dal suo arrivo in Italia fino alla fine della guerra.
Prima dell’inizio e dopo la fine della miniserie sono previsti due brevi documentari:
• Il primo documentario narra dalla costituzione della 10a Divisione da Montagna, prima e unica unità di “Alpini” dell’esercito degli Stati Uniti, fino all’arrivo in Italia, fornendo allo spettatore un panorama storico riguardante la Divisione sin dalla sua formazione, avvenuta tra la fine del 1941 e metà del 1942, l’addestramento, durato oltre due anni, ed è propedeutico anche all’introduzione alla miniserie.
• Il secondo documentario è un Ora e Allora, un confronto tra luoghi e persone tra il 1944-1945 ed ai giorni nostri.
Episodio 1:
Il primo episodio segue la Compagnia da Gavinana fino al dispiegamento al fronte, quando raggiunse le aree di accampamento nelle vicinanze del Monte Belvedere.
L’episodio narra anche di un raid/attacco che l’unità fece sul Monte Spigolino, il 5 febbraio 1945.
Episodio 2:
Il secondo episodio segue la Compagnia dall’attacco al Monte Belvedere fino alla Hill 1027, una quota vicino all’Oratorio della Madonna degli Emigranti in località Ronchidoso, da dove l’unità respinse numerosi contrattacchi, nella notte tra il 20 e il 21 Febbraio del 1945.
Episodio 3:
Il terzo episodio segue inizialmente la compagnia sulla Hill 1036, una quota vicina alla zona di Jola di Montese, situato a circa un chilometro dal Monte della Torraccia fino alle retrovie a Gaggio Montano dove, la mattina del 24 Febbraio, la compagnia venne fatta allontanare dal fronte per un giorno. Dopodiché l’episodio segue la compagnia a Campo Tizzoro, dove venne mandata per un breve periodo di riposo.
Episodio 4:
Il quarto episodio segue la compagnia durante l’attacco alla HILL 909, una quota vicina Castel d’Aiano, nel giorno più sanguinoso per la 10a Divisione: il 14 aprile 1945.
La Compagnia G è ricordata per essere stata l’unità in cui John D. Magrath, giovane soldato di 20 anni, venne ucciso durante l’attacco alla Hill 909. Magrath fu l’unico soldato della 10a Divisione da Montagna a ricevere la Medaglia d’Onore del Congresso durante la seconda guerra mondiale. L’episodio segue la compagnia fino alla fine della guerra.
SCOPO DEL PROGETTO
Gli obbiettivi del progetto sono sostanzialmente due:
Il primo, di carattere storico e culturale, è rivolto principalmente ai giovani delle nuove generazioni per tramandare e perché rimanga viva, fissandola in immagini, la memoria del passato attraverso i ricordi personali dei veterani e lo scambio reciproco tra culture divere nei rapporti con i civili.
Soldati che allora erano ragazzi, principalmente di 19/24 anni, che vennero a combattere nella nostra Italia, per la nostra libertà, lontano da casa e dagli affetti, a contatto con gente di cultura e usanze completamente diverse, in umide buche scavate nel terreno, fredde come solo gli inverni di allora sapevano essere, circondati da pioggia e neve.
Il rischio di morire da un momento all’altro a causa del fuoco di artiglieria nemico o in un combattimento, l’atroce esperienza della perdita di un compagno cambiarono e segnarono la loro vita per sempre.
I ricordi e gli incubi notturni, che riferiscono molti veterani, li accompagnarono per anni, ben oltre il loro ritorno in patria.
Il secondo obbiettivo è quello di far conoscere e valorizzare il territorio dove sono avvenuti i combattimenti raccontati dalla miniserie, fornendo agli spettatori lo stimolo informato a visitare tali luoghi. Oltre a ciò vuole essere un supporto alle amministrazioni pubbliche e ai privati interessati a promuovere il territorio e le attività su di esso operanti.
Il progetto è inoltre un tributo a tutti coloro che hanno combattuto e che hanno dato la vita per la nostra libertà, in particolare ai soldati della 10a Divisione da Montagna, durante la Seconda guerra mondiale.

Ha studiato all’Accademia Artisti di Roma, scuola nazionale di cinema e di recitazione. Ha scritto diretto e interpretato cortometraggi ambientati nella seconda guerra mondiale. È stato premiato nel 2019 al CineFuturaFest di Roma, concorso nazionale di cinema, con il cortometraggio “The Failure of the War”.

The project is entirely based on real events and documented thanks to the memories of still living veterans. Miniseries narrates the important battles that led to the breaking of the German front in the central sector of the Gothic Line, in the upper Apennines between the provinces of Bologna, Modena, and Pistoia, prologue the end of the Second World War in Italy, with a look at the relationships between soldiers and the population.
The miniseries, dubbed in Italian and English, is structured around 3 Episodes with an average duration of 40 minutes each.
Each episode is developed around a specific incident of the events unfolded in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines between January and April 1945.
The project follows Company G of the 85th Mountain Infantry Regiment since its arrival in Italy until the end of the war.
Two short documentaries are planned before the start and after the end of the miniseries: • The first documentary narrates from the establishment of the 10th Mountain Division, the first and only “Alpini” unit of the United States Army, until its arrival in Italy, providing the viewer with a historical panorama regarding the Division since its formation, which took place between the end of 1941 and mid-1942, the training, which lasted over two years, was also preparatory to the introduction to the miniseries. • The second documentary is a Now and Then, a comparison between places and people between 1944-1945 and the present day.
Episode 1:
The episode follows the Company from Gavinana until its mobilization to the front, when it reached the bivouac areas near Monte Belvedere.
The episode also tells of the raid/attack conducted by the unit on Monte Spigolino, on February 5, 1945.
Episode 2:
The episode follows the Company from the attack on Monte Belvedere to Hill 1027, a summit near the Emigrants Lady Oratory in Ronchidoso, from where the unit repulsed numerous counterattacks throughout the night between 20 and 21 February 1945.
Episode 3:
The episode begins by following the company on Hill 1036, a hill near Jola di Montese, located about half mile from Monte della Torraccia, to the rear of Gaggio Montano. where suffered to many losses and on the morning of February 24, and from were the Company was sent away from the front for a day.
After that the episode follows the Company to Campo Tizzoro, where it was sent for a brief rest.
Episode 4:
The episode follows the company during the attack on Hill 909, a hill near Castel d’Aiano, on the 10th Division’s bloodiest day: April 14, 1945.
Company G is remembered for being the unit were served John D. Magrath, a young soldier of only 20 years who was killed in the day of attack on Hill 909. He attack by himself 4 German foxhole, 2 with MG42 machine guns, took prisoners or killed some enemy by one of the previously captured MG42 machine gun.
Magrath was the only soldier of the 10th Mountain Division to receive the Congressional Medal of Honor during World War II. The episode follows the company until the end of the war.
PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT
The objectives of the project are two:
– The first, of a historical and cultural nature, is mainly aimed at passing the story on to young people of the new generations so that it remains alive, fixing in images the memory of the past through the personal memories of veterans.
Soldier, who were then boys mainly 19/24 years old, who came to fight in Italy away from home and loved ones, in contact with people of completely different cultures and customs, in humid foxholes dug in the ground, cold and surrounded by rain and snow.
The risk of dying at any moment from enemy artillery or in combat, the excruciating experience of losing a companion changed and marked their life forever.
Memories and nightmares which many veterans report accompanied them for years, well beyond the return to their homeland.
– The second objective is to raise awareness and value the territory where the fights recounted by the miniseries took place, providing viewers with an well-informed motivation to visit these places.
In addition to this, the series wants to be a support to public administrations and private individuals interested in promoting the territory and its activities.
The project is also a tribute to all those who fought and gave their lives for our freedom, especially the soldiers of the 10th Mountain Division during the Second World War.

Luciano La Valle
Luciano studied at the Accademia Artisti in Rome, a national school of cinema and acting.
He wrote, directed and starred in short films set in World War II.
In 2019, he received an award for the short film “The Failure of the War” at the CineFuturaFest in Rome, a national cinema competition.
